So you need a photo. You’re aware of stock photography, and you know a photographer, but which of these photo resource options will better fit your needs?
There are two types of stock photography:
Royalty Free – inexpensive, one time, fixed, upfront cost. Fast download
Rights Managed – a bit more expensive, price based on many factors of use including media type, placement, size, length of use, etc. Fast download.
And there is, of course, custom photography – certainly more costly, takes more time and planning, but you get exactly what you want.
There are situations where royalty free or rights managed images will work for you, especially when facing a tight budget. But if you have the time and resources consider custom photography. Always weigh your options and do your research in the early stages of the design for the best outcome.
